Collin County Court at Law 5

Court 5 is a statutory county court and generally speaking has jurisdiction over Class A and B misdemeanor criminal cases, Class C misdemeanor appeals, civil lawsuits within the jurisdictional limit of $500.00 to $250,000.00, and appeals of final rulings and decisions of the division of workers' compensation of the Texas Department of Insurance regarding workers' compensation claims, regardless of the amount in controversy.  Court 5 does not hear family law or probate cases.

Court 5 is currently presided over by the Honorable Dan K. Wilson.  He has announced his retirement at the end of this term and will not be running for re-election in 2022.   Because Judge Wilson is leaving the bench, this is an open, non-incumbent seat.
